The Washington native Red Elderberry is a versatile, deciduous shrub or small tree that thrives in moist environments, making it a valuable addition to gardens and natural landscapes. Fragrant, conical clusters of tiny white flowers bloom in mid to late spring, attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators. 

Note: While the plant is easy to grow and maintain, its raw berries and other parts contain compounds that are toxic to humans and livestock if not properly prepared

Bright red berries appear in summer, providing food for over 30 bird species and other wildlife. The berries are toxic when raw but can be cooked into jellies, sauces, or wine.
